DSQUARED² A/W 2012 - 60's vibe

Unless you live in a cave somewhere you've probably seen this collection. So we could talk about the 60's vibe - the big hair, the cats eyes sunglasses (which I am really feeling nowadays), the bubblegum colors but I'm going to skip all that. The thing that stood out for me, was how Dean and Dan Caten (the geniuses behind D Squared²) mixed everday pieces for a chic finish. Looking at this, I realised I already have similar pieces in my wardrobe, and so do you all. May this be an inspiration on how to 'wear'/mix and match your clothes.

Ofcourse I wasn't going to end this post without my two favorite gowns from their collection.

Why wait for fall? These looks can definitly work for spring too.

Someone once left a comment that she had all these clothes but didn't know how to mix and match them. I hope this post gives her some kind of idea.

NATALIA VODIANOVA - on the cover of Vogue Paris March 2012

It has been a long while since I got excited about Vogue Paris covers. Being a person who takes forever to adjust is the cause. Carine Roitfeld's shoes are really hard to fill. I digress. Natalia Vodianova is one of my favorite models, top reason being her versatility. Her editorials exite me.

Here are a few photographs from her editorial shot by Mert Atlas and Marus Pigott. It's quite interesting how she manages to look so different in the different pictures. simply beautiful!

MOSCHINO A/W 2012

The lights are dimmed, the drums begin to roll and one by one strut the models down the runway. There is a kinda of mystrey behind their big cowboy like hats and sunglasses. The come the girly girls with 60's style hairdo's and huge bows on their heads. The drums continue rolling and you are emmersed in color, red, mustard, royal blues, black, white and lilac.
There were solid prints, mixtures of prints, nautical stripes... Rosella Jardini outdid herself. She definitly brought the color back to the Milan Fashion Week. That cutesy raspberry sorbet dress literally SHUT IT DOWN!

The Moschino fashion show is streaming on demand (Free)on  THE BLONDE SALAD so if you are interested, go watch it there.

something new, something old

Shoes - ZARA BoxClutch - TK MAXX

Temperatures are rising, I am optimistic that I, in the near future, will go from staring at these beautiful heels to  actually walk in them.
The clutch is almost two years old, and the most spacious box clutch I own meaning I can fit my blackberry, lipgloss, I.D and money in it, unlike the others modelled for lipgloss I.D. and money. It excites me seeing them together like that. I can hardly wait to wear them together.

Fashion Shmashion

I had a very interesting encounter with one of my acquintances. We met at my roomates birthday do, which was an intimate affair in a small bar in downtown Hamburg. Catching up, the question of his new fling came up.

'Is she pretty?' I asked?

Yes, No or She is really hot/attractive/ (insert positive adjective) would suffice. I got a weird mumble of words that led into a discussion of what our opinions of beauty were. Ideas were thrown on the table and his conclusion was yes, he thought she was beautiful, but he didn't think that I would think she was. Surprised I asked why?

'Well, you are quite superficial,'

Thought at that moment (Cue Paris Hilton high laugh Hee Hee)

'So how did you come to his conclusion' I dared ask

This is someone who I only meet in situations where there's loud music and alcohol involved. He had based these opinions by the funny videos I post on facebook, my dress sense, the smile on my face and the silly conversations we've had -in infantile English and German for communications sake- while intoxicated.
This took me back to when a guy I was dating said I needed to tone down my dressing because everytime I entered the room everyone noticed. I highly doubt it is in my dressing, I thought it was in my aura. Still I beat myself up about this remark until later that week, when we were at Hugo Boss picking a suit for him and the attendant came over to me, complimented my look, mentioning how chic I looked and that everyone couldn't stop staring.

'Well, you noticed, that I am stylish and by your afore stuttering you know I set my standars high' I said...'so Thank you'

If we were to go by facebook, I told him, I'd say you are not who you pretend to be. He want's to be alternative but during his birthday the present he was most excited about was a designer T-shirt. We shop at the same stores (mostly) and he posts a lot of nonsense too on facebook. 'So I could call you superficial too you know'

Outward appearances have never been my motivation to acknowledge people but I learned early, they are very important. I must admit, I recognise the better dressed people in the room faster and I'm naturally more interested in them. There is something intimidating and mysterious about the stylish people in the room. That does not mean that I am snobbish to people who aren't stylish, or that I spend unbeliveable amounts of time on appearances.
In our situation, we are in a party/social gathering. We have all come from our stressful days/lives and we are out to celebrate. So, I'll indulge everyone, I do tend to keep it light and funny.

In this society where really good clothes are readily available at such affordable prices, I find it quite suspect that some people do not care about appearances. A former roomate once explained it to me as 'everyone wants to be so different they all end up looking the same' and it's true.

So am I supposed to acquisice to acquintances 'Idea' of serious by wearing black clothes and dirty chucks at all times, and talk about HIV and AIDS and how it's a national disaster in my country? and how infection rates are rising in Germany due to lack of information? Or talk about German politics which BOOOOORES me to death because the politicians are so uncharismatic and they lack the balls to tough out negative media?

If said acquintance, or anyone else for that matter wants to judge me for taking time to dress up, be my guest.

'Well, I know you would NEVER wear H&M and the likes' said aqcuintance...

I was in a top and jacket from H&M and Zara trousers and booties...

At this point, it is pertinent to add that said acquintance is a male model, and was in designer wear. I'm quite tempted to photograph him for my blog.

THE WORLD IS YOUR RUNWAY!!!! WEAR WHAT YOU WANT

Black and Brown

It's always the best feeling when it's pouring outside and all you have to do all day is stay in and watch the bottles gather rain. But the day is done, and I have to go to class... So I threw on my favorite H&M poncho. Which can also be interprated as Hamburg Uniform.

Poncho&trousers - H&M boots - Deichmann top - NEW YORKER cuff - S.A. pendant - &A

Who knew, black and brown could go so well together?

Rachel Zoe F/W 2012 NY Fashionweek

I love and respect Rachel Zoe so much, she is really a woman of many talents and someone who has inspired me in quite a number of ways.

I love the way she made what seems so ordinary have that extra ordinary feel to it. The high slits and the furs, the sequins, the chic sleek cuts, the plunging V cuts.

Although I hope to see something different next time, cos this looks like an extension of her closet, and is also quite similar to her last collection. What do you guys think?

Safe House- (W/ Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds)

First and foremost the outfit :-)

Dress - VERO MODA Tweed - ZARA Tights -I forget Shoes - Store in Fehmarn

It is pertinent to get all the 'Movie goers ettiquette' out of your system before you go to watch the sneak previews in Streits cinema in Hamburg. I didn't heed the warning I got from my roommate but I am glad I got in some wine before I got there.

The Cinema was packed with excited kids, who kept talking  yelling at the screen. It was almost Co ordinated semi - cued and quite impressive how they all yelled the same things at the different scenes at the exact same time. Almost as if on cue. Before the movie starts, there are auctions for DVD's, the person who guessed the movie that is actually going to be on gets tickets for the next sneak preview ( which 23 people got right and a draw had to be done to get the winner) and then the MC's throw bags of chips and chocolate (early valentines?) to the audience then the movie begins.

The movie set off with whistles and cat calls at Ryan Reynolds body from the females, and the same for the girl who played his girl friend from the males. The crowd was decent during the duration of the movie apart from the end where someone thought it would be 'cool' to start a slow clap... which slowly gained momentum but kinda died as fast as it began. The movie itself Safe House was really good, I mean, if you are into action movies with no concrete dialogue type stuff. Denzel Washington is truly the black Dorian Gray!

Happy Valentines day to you and yours... Kisses

Date Night

all - H&M, shoes - RANDOM STORE , Rings - BIJOU BRIGITTE bag - Zara

Finally went to see the artist. It is one of the most interesting movies I have seen in quite a while. So much so that I want to go and watch it a second time. If you haven't seen it yet, you should. Take your man too. The boy quite enjoyed himself.

It's not quite clear in the pictures but there hasn't been a trend that I have loved more than the Panda eyes. I've been wearing blue Panda eyes ever since I tweeted about it... Very excited to try out other colors.

The say the shoes make or break the outfit... now that I see these pictures I just want to throw these vile shoes away, what say you???

My First Blog Awards :)

My blog recieved the Kreativ Blogger and Versatile blogger award from Corner Curl Girl. You can imagine my excitement. I am still surprised that she found my blog worthy enough and I am quite honored.

So, I have to share 7 random facts about myself, here goes :

1. I get extremly nervous when am in a small crowded area. I tend to look for exit signs, just incase anything happens as soon as I step into a club et. al. and stay on the preiphery of crowded domains.

2. I am terrified of birds... especially pidgeons and their tendancy to spontaenously take flight and live chicken (especially those that run unattened in rural Africa)

3. I don't like chocolate. It seems to be the popular gift in Germany and I have been eating it out of politeness but am tired of being polite about it so no more chocolate this year!

4. Ever since I was little, I have had tea and biscuits or samosa's at 4 p.m. Something I still do no matter which part of the world I am currently in.

5. I am a christian and believe's God helps those who helps themselves. So if you want something, you better work hard for it.

6. LOOOOVE dessert. Let's skip the main course and go straight to dessert!!If there was a way to survive on desserts, I'd do it.

7. The trauma of boarding school and wearing a darkbrown school uniform has left me biased towards that color (read: I try to avoid wearing anything darkbrown)

Since I was blessed with these 2 awards. I will be passing them both on to

A few rules that go along with accepting this award:
1. Thank the person who awarded you
2. Share 7 things about yourself
3. Award 15 discovered bloggers

Cheers!
