FORKS OVER KNIVES

A year back while flipping through T.V. channels, I came across a documentary where chickens - 32 weeks old - were getting their heads bruttally chopped off. This traumatised me so much that I stopped eating chicken or chicken products in Germany. The images have stuck with me so I tend to stay away from such documentaries.

A few months back, Bryan tweeted about this documentary. I saw the trailer and figured it was safe to watch. The best thing about it is that there are no GORY images of mistreated animals. It gives useful facts and makes you think about your health in relation to what you consume. It took me back to my Uni days when I ate from the cafeteria which only served a vegan diet. 3 years of my life and I must say, I don't recall a time when I was so healthy or looked young and fresh (as my friends said then). Your body is a temple and you need to care for it.

I would seriously recommend you all watch it if you haven't. If you have, please let me know what you thought.

  1. My friend at work has a sister in law who watched forks over knives and started on the vegan diet.

  4. I haven't heard of this documentary but it sounds great. I'd absolutely be willing to watch it even though I'm not planning on going vegan or veggie anytime soon. I read Michael Pollan's Food Rules a few summers ago along with Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Vegetable Miracle and it totally changed the way I see food- even dog food! I'm cooking my dog ground turkey and mashed potatoes right now!

  7. Looks interesting, I watched Jamie Oliver's 'Jamie's fowl chicken'and was put off eating any meat that is produced by keeping the animal in a small enclosed space, or any processed food(pies, sausage rolls, tinned food, etc)...I am slowly eating less meat but I doubt I shall ever be a vegetarian, I love my beef and fish.

  8. Although they push for a vegan diet, I am not vegan. I still eat fish once in a while, and would probably eat meat and chicken if I knew they were reared well. Watching this documentary made me think about what I put in my mouth, before running to mc donalds for a burger, I now dash in a supermarket and get an apple... etc, I also try to be mobile and excersice more.

  9. It´s so brutal. I live in China and I have been thinking about this since human rights are sometimes not even respected here....

  12. I've been really meaning to watch this documentary. I've been a vegetarian for a while now and it's definitely important to think about where your food is coming from. Food Inc. is also another good documentary.
